Sherri & Leonard Mello

Sherri and Leonard Mello welcome you to Tavolo and look forward to providing you with a memorable dining experience. Both Sherri and Leonard have extensive experience in the hospitality industry and understand the importance of providing the customer with a fresh, innovative and welcoming setting offering the highest quality cuisine. You can find them both at the restaurant on a daily basis providing support to the amazing staff and assuring a great experience for their customers. Leonard is also the Sommelier at Tavolo and has developed a world class beverage program with an extensive wine, beer and cocktail list. Leonard used his 15+ years of experience to develop a wine list that is extensive but not intimidating or overbearing while at the same time providing customers with the opportunity to taste selections from various countries at comfortable price points. The beer list was developed to showcase the ever growing craft beer offerings available. With over 70 different beers on tap and in bottles the beer list is one of the more well rounded lists in this area and beyond. Through constant evaluation, training and research, Leonard is constantly updating the beverage program to meet the current demand of their customers.

Our Chef

Paul Shire

Paul Shire came onto the local food scene in 1990, when he opened the DownCity Diner to much critical acclaim. That concept evolved into DownCity Food + Cocktails. Eventually Shire moved on to open and operate Oak, another popular restaurant located on the East Side, for six years. After a bit of traveling, Shire returned to New England, working for a time with his aunt, Lydia Shire, the James Beard Award Winning Chef from Boston. Most recently, he was the chef at Andreas on Thayer Street in Providence and 2 Pauls City Grille in East Providence.

Shire has been cooking since he was 13. Cooking is definitely in his blood – his great grandfather was the chef to the king of Egypt. Prior to DownCity, Shire gained experience at other highly successful restaurants: Biba in Boston, Angels in Providence, Spain in Cranston and Narragansett. Combining traditional Italian cuisine with contemporary ideas and trends Chef Paul creates meals that are exquisitely prepared while over delivering on taste and value. All of our menu items are designed and created from scratch in house by the chef and his and our superb team.
